WQ # 22: ¿Qué pasó?

Description

As you have found that your booklet (from SEEDS Webquest # 21) was helpful for students, you would like to extend and practice your students’ knowledge on body parts and on some verbs that cause effects on body. In order to do this, you are planning to make up chants about the body parts and verbs together with your students.

Task

You are to make sample verses of chants for your class. You will ask where the person hurts, and ask what happened. The partner will answer by saying the area where they feel pain, and explain what happened to cause that pain or problem. Once the verses are complete, students will practice with proper rhythm for the verses.

Process

1. First, visit the suggested sites (A) on Spanish vocabulary on body parts and sites (B) on sickness and symptoms. Then visit the suggested site (C) for examples of causes and results.

2. Second, prepare a list of body parts, pain symptoms, and possible causes.

3. Third, make at least 10 verses for the song. For example,

¿Dónde tienes dolor?
Me duelen las piernas.
¿Qué pasó?
Jugué al fútbol demasiado.
¿Dónde tienes dolor?
Me duele la cabeza.
¿Qué pasó?
Tengo la gripe.

4. Check your verses with one of your Spanish speaking colleague teachers at your partner school.

5. Teach and sing the song in your class. Practice until students can sing fluently.

6. Ask students to create more verses, or add additional information (e.g. where to go or who to call) at the end of the verses.

7. Keep one copy of your verses in your professional portfolio. If available, you may also include student-made verses in addition to yours.

Conclusion

What a great and fun song! Your students love your song and remember all the body parts and causes of pain. Just one verse that you don’t believe? Tiene dolor de cabeza porque tienen demasiado tarea…
