WQ #17: Profesión Bingo

Description

Next week is “Parent Teaching Week.” A number of parents will come and talk about their jobs in class. You would like to prepare your students about the names of professions and the workplaces before the parents’ visit, and review them after. You are going to prepare a list of the names of professions and workplaces to help students learn, and create a bingo game for a review.

Task

You are to make a list of the names of profession and workplaces as a handout. You will include at least 25 different professions and workplaces of those professionals. You will teach students with the list (handout), and in the following week, create a bingo game using the list. Create rules for the game in Spanish and explain it to the students.

Process

1. First, visit the suggested sites (A) on Spanish vocabulary of names of professions. You may also check your vocabulary knowledge using the suggested interactive flash cards and online quiz.

2. Second, prepare a list of names of professions and the workplaces of those professionals in Spanish and English. You will use this list as a handout to teach your students professions and workplaces. (See sample list here) To make the list of workplaces, you may look up dictionaries if you need assistance. (An online dictionary is suggested in (B) of Resources section)

3. Third, check your list with one of the local partner (Spanish speaking) teachers for correct use of Spanish. Teach your student about professions using the list in your class.

4. Fourth, make bingo cards for students. (You may use the suggested site (c) for creating bingo cards). Create rules for the game and explain it to the students. You can be creative to create rules. (For example, call up a profession and mark the matching workplace on the Bingo board, use of both names of professions and workplaces, students can mark on their board only when they can answer the question asking the name of profession, etc)

5. Keep a copy of the list (handout), bingo cards, and bingo rules that you have created in your professional portfolio.

Conclusion

Bingo! During the parents’ guest lessons, students were able to recognize the professions from the list that you have prepared for them and asked many good questions. After the parents’ visits, your students enjoyed bingo game and were able to match names of professions and workplaces, while they were having fun.
