The teacher will print out attachment. The teacher will print the color/number key on the board. (For example, 1=blue, 2=white, 3=green, 4=yellow, 5=black, 6=red)
The teacher will review the numbers and the colors before beginning the activity.
The teacher will use the attachment for the review.
The teacher will say, "Class, what color is this?"(point to a fish).
The class will respond and the teacher will say "correct" or "incorrect".
The teacher will continue with the review until all the colors and the numbers have been reviewed.
The teacher will divide the class into groups of four.
She can count one, two, three, four as she makes the groups. There can be groups of two or three students.
The teacher says "The object of the game is to fill your aquarium first with a fish of each color."
The teacher explains.
"Each team (group) takes a turn throwing the die. When the die falls, one student says the number that comes up and the corresponding color."
The teacher gives the fish to the student. The student puts the fish in the aquarium. If the aquarium already has the fish, the student does nothing and passes the die to the next team.
The game continues this process until one of the teams fills the aquarium with a fish of each color.
The teacher says, "You can’t repeat the colors. When a group has the fish already, they pass the die and the next team continues."
The group that has all the fish first wins.
To conclude, the winning group recites the colors and the numbers.
