The teacher will have the students placed in groups of two or three.
The teacher says,
"Let’s investigate how many water drops fit on a penny before it overflows."
The teacher calls on a student and asks:
"_____________(name of student) How many drops do you think will fit on a penny?"
The student responds with a number.
The teacher writes the name of the student next to his/her prediction.
The teacher continues asking the other students for their prediction and writes the number next to the name of the student.
The teacher says to the students
"Class, we are going to work in groups."
The teacher will instruct the groups to take the eyedropper and begin to count the water drops onto to the penny. The teacher suggests that that each student puts three drops of water and gives the eyedropper to another student.
The teacher will walk around the room to make sure that the students are counting in Spanish.
The teacher will ask a student,
"_____________(name of student) How many drops are there on your penny?"
When everyone has finished write the actual number of water drops next to the prediction.
To end the activity the teacher counts from 0-10 and the students repeat.
The teacher compares the predictions with the actual number of water drops and comments who was correct. The teacher uses expressions such as "Excellent, Very Good, Good".
