Around the Lake in 14 Days
A WebQuest for Teachers
Internationalizing the Curriculum

Introduction
You are going to plan a virtual camping adventure for your students where they will spend 14 days traveling around Lake Titicaca. At each stop along the way they will need a list of supplies (in English and in Spanish), a menu (using foods available in the region) and information about sites to see.

Task
Your task is to design a journal where your students can keep track of their adventure. It will need to include vocabulary lists and room for photos!

Process
First decide what format you want your students to use for their journal. You may want to design a template for them to insert the information (See sample) as they find it or you may want them to design a power point presentation to share with the class.  Tell the students to begin their adventure by gathering supplies they will need for their adventure. For a list of vocabulary words visit http://dlc.k12.ar.us/pdf/Web%20Quests/losandes_camp.pdf.

Next they need to decide where they want to start their trip. The possible towns around the lake where they can begin their adventure are Puno http://www.ladatco.com/TITI-PNO.HTM , Copacabana http://www.ladatco.com/TITI-CPA.HTM or Inca Utama http://www.ladatco.com/TITI-UTA.HTM . Each of these websites explains what to see and do in the town as well as some history.  Other places to visit around the lake are Sun Island http://www.ladatco.com/TITI-SUN.HTM , Tihuanacano http://www.ladatco.com/TITI-TIA.HTM , Moon Island and Urus floating islands.

You also want your students to decide what local foods are available and what they will eat during their voyage. If they want recipes from Bolivia in Spanish they can visit http://cocinadelmundo.com/paises/bolivia/  or http://www.bolivian.com/cocina/index.html or they can read in English about food in Bolivia http://www.languagecrossing.com/bolivia/about/food.html or in Peru http://www.languagecrossing.com/peru/about/food.html . Food vocabulary in Spanish can be practiced at http://mld.ursinus.edu/~jarana/Ejercicios/self-check/alimentos/alimentos.html
