Launched
in 1993, the Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA)
at the University of Minnesota supports a number of interrelated
programs of research, training, development, and dissemination of
information related to second language teaching, learning, and assessment.
The center
has been designated as one of the U.S. Department of Education's
Title VI National Language Resource Centers, whose role is to improve
the
nation's capacity to teach and learn foreign languages effectively.
